Government policy toward Romanian citizens outside the country is a priority

Government policy toward Romanian citizens outside the country is a priority, visible and focused on actions and concrete projects, Prime Minister Victor Ponta says in his message, presented on Saturday in the Forum of Romanians from Everywhere by state advisor Luminita Odobescu.

"We must transform this policy, by making determined efforts and well qualified investments, into a mission aimed at achieving Romania's set objectives and to promote Romania's image, culture and values. Consequently, we share a great responsibility for the conservation of the Romanian values, promotion of the cultural and religious identity and prosperity of our communities resident in other countries", Ponta underlined in his message.

According to the document, the Romanian Government, in all its actions, starts from the assumption that Romanians living abroad are an integral part of the Romanian society in terms of spirituality, history and development, and the fundamental objectives further aim at continuation and affirmation of the cultural, linguistic and religious identity, as well as the strengthening of links between Romania and the Romanian communities abroad.

Directions of action that the Government prioritizes in this area focus on education in Romanian language - financing Romanian projects for the organization of Romanian language courses, as well as of teaching Romania's history and geography – on the improvement of libraries situation in Romanian teaching schools, facilitation of access to publications in Romanian language, keeping cultural and religious identity by supporting projects of showcasing the Romanian cultural heritage, as well as preservation of traditions and promotion of the Romanian authentic folk art.

At the same time, the Government aims at providing support to priests who hold religious services in Romanian, in other countries, and at the opening of a number as high as possible of parish schools, financial support for construction, renovation and arrangement of Romanian churches, where there are numerous Romanian communities, facilitation of collaboration between Romanians' organizations in various European countries, in order to mutually know each other, cooperate and render support.

Another direction of action is aimed at promotion on the agenda of bilateral political dialogue, or with the European institutions, of the issues, difficulties or other aspects raised by Romanian communities, the efforts made by the Romanian authorities, mainly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the direction of liberalization of the labor market for the Romanian citizens and promotion of the Romanian minority rights in the neighboring countries.
